How to Add LED Light Therapy to Your Spa Menu

When I first worked with red light therapy in my Santa Barbara practice, I learned that a simple protocol matters as much as the device. Your timing, supervision and sanitation determine whether LED fits your menu.

If you're a spa owner, esthetician or clinic manager thinking about LED, here's what I've learned about adding it well.

Why LED works so well as a service

  • It has a repeatable flow. Staff can explain the setting, fit the device, monitor the client as required, and finish with aftercare.

  • It can complement a facial. Keep timing around peels, resurfacing or medication use within your clinical protocol and device directions.

  • Clients already know about it. Glowing masks are all over social media. Many clients come in already curious.

  • It lends itself to a series. Offer a realistic schedule and document progress without promising a result.

Red light therapy is being used for concerns like wrinkles, redness and acne, and interest continues to grow. The Cleveland Clinic has a balanced overview that's worth reading as you plan your menu.

Three ways to offer it

1. As an add-on. Add LED to a facial when your device's prescribed session length fits the booking. Account for cleansing, fitting, monitoring and sanitation when setting the price.

2. As a standalone express service. An express appointment can include cleansing, an LED session and finishing care. Set the booking length from the actual device protocol.

3. As a series. A series can make follow-up simple. Agree on a schedule and record photos or client feedback consistently.

Choosing the right device

Look for:

  • Flexible, full-face coverage. Flexible silicone masks fit different face shapes and are comfortable for clients.

  • Preset settings. They make treatments consistent from therapist to therapist. The NuShape LED Mask has seven.

  • Clear cleaning instructions. Use the manufacturer-approved disinfection method and allow enough turnover time.

  • Portability. A rechargeable controller means you can use it in any room.

Don't skip the skincare

Make the skincare steps consistent. Cleanse first, use only products your device permits during treatment, and apply moisturizer afterward.

That's why I created EnLumine. EnLumine offers a simple mist, serum and cream sequence. The green tea and light evidence is preliminary, so describe the products for their formulation and feel rather than promising accelerated LED results. See the treatment room protocol.

Getting started

Start with one service, train staff on screening, eye safety, cleaning and aftercare, then track rebooking and client feedback. To discuss professional supply and retail, contact NuShape through support page.

How easy is it to add LED therapy to an existing treatment?
Very easy. LED therapy can be built into facials, recovery treatments, and wellness services without adding a complicated new protocol. Once the client is comfortably set up, the session is largely hands-off, making it a simple way to increase treatment value without significantly increasing labor.

Do I need additional staff to offer LED therapy?
Usually not. A trained team member can incorporate LED into an existing treatment flow, handling client screening, setup, sanitation, and any monitoring required for the device. For spas and clinics, it can be an efficient way to expand the treatment menu without adding a labor-intensive service.

What should I apply before an LED session in the treatment room?
Begin with freshly cleansed skin. A lightweight, light-compatible serum or treatment can be applied before the session and allowed to absorb, followed by moisturizer and finishing products afterward. Skincare designed to complement LED therapy can also turn the light session into a more complete professional protocol.
